Portion planning at a cafeteria-line barbecue counter is not complicated, but there are three specific points where the cheapest choice flips. Knowing them is most of the value.
Twelve tacos — where the Taco Box starts to win
Below twelve, the $24 box is worse than buying what you want. At exactly twelve of the box's own mix it saves $2.85. Above twelve it depends on whether your extras are $1.10 bean tacos or $3.35 sausage and egg.
Four people — where family orders overtake plates
Four Regular Plates is $37.80. A small BBQ Family Order is $30.55 with sides and bread in the box.
Three cups — where the tea bucket pays for itself
$4.75 a gallon against $2.20 a large cup. The break-even is 2.2 cups, so any table of three or more should be buying buckets. This is the least glamorous saving on the menu and one of the most reliable.

How many breakfast tacos per person?
Two per adult is a satisfying breakfast; one is a snack and three is a large meal. Children under twelve usually manage one. So a crew of six adults wants twelve tacos, which is exactly where the $24 Taco Box starts to make sense against buying singly.
How much BBQ per person should I order?
Plan a third to a half pound of cooked meat per adult when sides are on the table, and about a quarter pound per child. From about four people. Four Regular Plates at $9.45 is $37.80; a small BBQ Family Order is $30.55 and feeds four to five with sides and bread included. At six to eight people the large order at $44.65 is well under what individual plates cost.
Should I buy tea by the cup or the bucket?
