The BBQ Family Order is $30.55 and feeds four to five; the large is $44.65 and feeds six to eight. Both include pit meat, sides and bread. The break-even against buying individually is four people: four Regular Plates cost $37.80, so the small family order saves $7.25. The large order works out at $5.58 a head at eight people, the cheapest per-person figure on this menu. Below three people, individual plates are cheaper.
Family order versus individual plates, by headcount
Individual column uses the $9.45 Regular Plate. Verified 4 August 2026.
| People | Buying individually | Family order | Difference | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | $18.90 | $30.55 | +$11.65 | Buy plates |
| 3 | $28.35 | $30.55 | +$2.20 | Plates, marginally |
| 4 | $37.80 | $30.55 | −$7.25 | Family order — the switch |
| 5 | $47.25 | $30.55 | −$16.70 | Family order, comfortably |
| 6 | $56.70 | $44.65 | −$12.05 | Large family order |
| 8 | $75.60 | $44.65 | −$30.95 | Large — $5.58 a head |
| 10 | $94.50 | $75.20 | −$19.30 | Two orders, or move to catering |
Family-order figures assume the chain's own stated coverage. At five people the small order is stretched but works; at nine or more, two orders beat one large plus extras.
Three things worth knowing before you order one
The saving comes from sides, not meat
A family order does not give you meaningfully more brisket per person than a plate would. It gives you quart sides instead of individual scoops, and quart pricing is where the discount lives. If your group cares about meat volume specifically, add a pound à la carte rather than sizing up the order.
Drinks will quietly undo the saving
Six large teas at $2.20 is $13.20 — nearly double what you saved by switching to a family order. A gallon bucket is $4.75 and pours roughly sixteen servings. This is the single most common way a group order gets expensive.
It is not the same thing as catering
Family orders come off the regular menu at regular prices. Catering is a separate quote system carrying roughly a 17% premium for the service that comes with it. Below about twenty people you want family orders; above that, the catering route is the one built for it.
The cheapest way to feed eight people here
A large BBQ Family Order at $44.65 plus a tea bucket at $4.75 is $49.40, or $6.18 a head, including drinks. Nothing else on this menu comes close for that headcount — the nearest alternative, eight Regular Plates plus eight large teas, is $93.20. If you want the same exercise for your own numbers, the order calculator runs it, and the cheapest-orders page does the same job for one person.
Family specials — questions
How much is a Bill Miller family pack?
The BBQ Family Order is $30.55 and feeds four to five; the large is $44.65 and feeds six to eight. Both include pit meat, sides and bread. The fried chicken family orders sit alongside them. Full costing is on the catering page.
Is a Bill Miller family order worth it?
From four people, clearly yes. Four Regular Plates at $9.45 comes to $37.80; the small family order is $30.55 for the same coverage — $7.25 saved. At three people it is roughly a wash. Below three, buy plates.
How many people does a Bill Miller family order feed?
Four to five for the small at $30.55, six to eight for the large at $44.65. Those are the chain's own bands and they assume ordinary appetites with sides on the table. For a hungry crowd, read them as four and six. The order calculator applies an appetite multiplier if you want it sized properly.
What comes in a Bill Miller family order?
Pit meat, sides and bread, portioned for the headcount. The sides are the standard rotation — pinto beans, potato salad, coleslaw, Spanish rice, green beans, mac and cheese. Drinks are not included, which is why a $4.75 tea bucket is the standard add-on.
Is the Taco Box a family special?
It functions as the breakfast equivalent. The $24.00 Taco Box is a dozen tacos, which is six adults at two each. Against twelve mixed singles at $26.85 it saves $2.85 — smaller than the BBQ family-order saving, and it reverses entirely if your group eats cheap fillings.
